Since the epic gRADuation party in Isla Vista this past May, and equally epic laptop theft I was victim of, I haven’t made a mix in quite a while (let alone update the blog.)
My August Mix is a departure from heavy bangers in favor of pretty disco and indie dance tunes — 40 minutes worth. Enjoy.

I made a 7 minute Fomao mix to get played on UCSB radio to promote his show on May 1st. Here’s the original PSA where I mentioned that tickets are only $5, which is apparently a no no if you don’t want to get fined by the FCC.
The show on Friday is being put on by CAB and IV Garb to benefit School On Wheels, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and mentoring homeless children throughout Southern California. Every week, hundreds of School on Wheels’ volunteer tutors give hope, educational assistance and support to thousands of children in need.
They do all this with no government funding, and operate through donations such as the ticket proceeds being generated by our show on May 1st. We hope to see everyone there!
The Garbtopia Tent at Floatopia 2009 was a great success. While Santa Barbara County may not have been toohappyabout it, the event attracted an estimated 12,000 revelers and I personally regard it as one of the best days of my life.
A few days before the event, I got a facebook message from Cam Francisco of GottaDanceDirty asking where we planned to setup along the beach. He had plans to DJ with MoreDillon right around the same area, so before ever meeting in person we decided to team up. We showed up on the beach around 9:30am to find that another tent beat us to the punch and had already setup in the same spot, right below our power source on Del Playa. Thankfully, we met Josh Allen and Bennie D, two very cool guys who were also willing to collaborate.
As a result, and thanks to help from the man himself Michael Figueroa, we were able to link up 7 PAs and a massive sub under two tents. We shared sets throughout the day and while some DJs ran into technical issues, we all had a great time.
I’d like to apologize to How Many Birds?, who were scheduled to perform live, but lost their microphone amidst the chaos on the beach. If you stole a vocal mic from the Garbtopia table, you are an asshole who prevented a great live band from performing.

FLOATOPIA is a tradition in Isla Vista where thousands of students flock to the beach bringing anything that can float in one hand, and as much alcohol they can carry in the other. Last year facebook showed around 4000 attendees, hampered a little by the less than favorable weather.
This year, the weather gods have smiled upon IV, granting us no clouds and a 68° high with low winds. As a result, the facebook event has OVER 9000 confirmed.
IV Garb has launched their Spring line featuring 6 new tanks which will be on sale Friday and possibly Saturday on the beach. Myself, Sticky K, MoreDillon and Cam Francisco will be spinning underneath a big blue tent (with disco ball) and 3 cliff-mounted PAs. There will also be a special live set from How Many Birds?!
If you’re in the area, head to the Del Playa Beach Saturday afternoon for a grand ol’ time.
The IV Garb winter line is out! To celebrate the 9 new incredibly sexy designs, we threw a massive party last weekend featuring 5 DJs, 5 PAs, a big old sub, and what’s called a “sonic maximizer;” this box that made everything really, really loud.
I’d be posting my set from the night, but I planned to re-record when I got home. Unfortunately, when I returned I realized the PLAY button on my left deck was broken, kind of a problem when you’re trying to PLAY music. Once I get this fixed I’ll be uploading some great new mixes, including IV Garb Promo Mix Vol 4.
As for the party, I’ll let the video below give you an idea of how it went.
So I’m having a lot of computer difficulties (PC) while importing video from the IV Garb Winter Launch party. I’ve decided to downgrade software and upgrade operating systems by importing everything into iMovie on my Macbook, and while I’m waiting for that to happen I thought I’d blog about music.
Tigersapien are 4 guys from Philly/NYC who all got bit by radioactive tigers and are now hybrid tiger homosapiens. Based on their sound, hometown and some things on their MySpace, I’m pretty sure they are somehow related to the band !!! (Chk, Chk, Chk) — a little more electro, perhaps, but this is just a theory of mine. They rock either way.
They’ve released an EP and will be playing live shows soon. I wonder if they’ll keep the masks on.
Also, there are some awesome promo pics on their MySpace you have to check out here and here. Even after the MySpace censors got to blurring them, I’m still not too keen on posting half-naked women since I’m pretty sure my mom checks this blog.

I got a chance to interview João Miguel and Luciano Oliveira a.k.a. The Twelves last Thursday at Popscene. Fresh off the plane from Rio de Janiero for their debut US performance, I actually hung out with them for most of the night, welcoming them as they began their first North American tour. The show was great, but I got a feeling most of the 21+ fans ended up at the Sebastien Tellier show at Mezzanine. Too bad they had to be on same night. Luciano even suggested we throw on their Episode II mixtape with some mannequin DJs, ditch the kids and go see Sebastien.
Either way, I had a blast and got to sport my Albi tee from IV Garb during the interview. Then on Saturday, João wore the Smoke tee while playing the Famous Friends anniversary party at Club Europa in Brooklyn.
Here are four Twelves-related tracks for your enjoyment. You can also see my previous post about them and download that Episode II mix tape.

This 45 minute mix comes from smooth operator Mike “Mackle” Somoff, one of the four performing DJs at the recent Brothfest. This bit ended the night as the cops promptly showed up to shut us down, followed by half an hour on the mic making obscenely drunk statements and telling people to “GTFO” over 4 PAs.
