Foamo Promo

I made a 7 minute Fomao mix to get played on UCSB radio to promote his show on May 1st. Here’s the original PSA where I mentioned that tickets are only $5, which is apparently a no no if you don’t want to get fined by the FCC.

The show on Friday is being put on by CAB and IV Garb to benefit School On Wheels, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and mentoring homeless children throughout Southern California. Every week, hundreds of School on Wheels’ volunteer tutors give hope, educational assistance and support to thousands of children in need.

They do all this with no government funding, and operate through donations such as the ticket proceeds being generated by our show on May 1st. We hope to see everyone there!

Floatopia Nostalgia

The Garbtopia Tent at Floatopia 2009 was a great success. While Santa Barbara County may not have been too happy about it, the event attracted an estimated 12,000 revelers and I personally regard it as one of the best days of my life.

A few days before the event, I got a facebook message from Cam Francisco of GottaDanceDirty asking where we planned to setup along the beach. He had plans to DJ with MoreDillon right around the same area, so before ever meeting in person we decided to team up. We showed up on the beach around 9:30am to find that another tent beat us to the punch and had already setup in the same spot, right below our power source on Del Playa. Thankfully, we met Josh Allen and Bennie D, two very cool guys who were also willing to collaborate.

As a result, and thanks to help from the man himself Michael Figueroa, we were able to link up 7 PAs and a massive sub under two tents. We shared sets throughout the day and while some DJs ran into technical issues, we all had a great time.

I’d like to apologize to How Many Birds?, who were scheduled to perform live, but lost their microphone amidst the chaos on the beach. If you stole a vocal mic from the Garbtopia table, you are an asshole who prevented a great live band from performing.

The track from the video is DJ Kue’s take on “I’m on a Boat,” which MoreDillon introduced us to. The video is a remix and so is the song, so I found it fitting:

I opened my set with this crowd pleaser, mixing Beach Boys intro Proxy. I challenge you to drop this anywhere other than an Isla Vista beach party:

Garbtopia

FLOATOPIA is a tradition in Isla Vista where thousands of students flock to the beach bringing anything that can float in one hand, and as much alcohol they can carry in the other. Last year facebook showed around 4000 attendees, hampered a little by the less than favorable weather.

This year, the weather gods have smiled upon IV, granting us no clouds and a 68° high with low winds. As a result, the facebook event has OVER 9000 confirmed.

IV Garb has launched their Spring line featuring 6 new tanks which will be on sale Friday and possibly Saturday on the beach. Myself, Sticky K, MoreDillon and Cam Francisco will be spinning underneath a big blue tent (with disco ball) and 3 cliff-mounted PAs. There will also be a special live set from How Many Birds?!

If you’re in the area, head to the Del Playa Beach Saturday afternoon for a grand ol’ time.
